Authors invited to teleseminar call discussing ways to Profit from the Power of Personas

Attend a free Power of Peresonas teleseminar Tuesday, July 7 and learn how to create reader and website visitor personas. Personas are planning tools that help authors plan, write, promote, and profit from their books.

Personas help authors and others on their team–like webmasters and graphic designers–”get inside their readers’ head” in order to make better-informed content and design decisions.

Personas are short fictional stories describing the attitudes, characteristics, goals, information needs, and motivations  of different groups of readers.

They can be as short as 1 page long.

In most cases, 3 to 5 personas is enough for a project; rarely are more than 7 required.

Personas and the power of story

The story in a persona is told in a few brief paragraphs and short bulleted lists that describe who the individual is, where they work, what their family situation is like, and–most important–what their problems are and the goals they want to accomplish.

Personas originated in the field of information architecture and web usability, but they can help authors at every step of writing and marketing their book:

  • Planning. Authors can use personas to plan their book’s title and organize their book’s table of contents.
  • Writing. Personas can help authors select the right language for chapter titles, headings, and subheads.
  • Promoting. Creating personas will help authors focus their website on their information and navigation that will help readers and prospects locate the information they desire when visiting the website.
  • Profiting. Personas will help authors correctly target the needs of their prospective buyers of their products and services.

Free interview: Want to start all over? Become a Career Renegade and make a great living doing what you love!

If you're like most people employed in large corporations, you may sometimes wish you could start all over, leave your corporate life, and become a career renegade…making a great living doing what you love. Many dream of doing it, but few actually do it. Jonathan Fields, whom I’m interviewing next week, did; and he wants to share his story with you.

Jonathan Fields’ recently published Career Renegade, How to Make a Great Living Doing What You Love, is both the story of his success and a step-by-step guide for others.

We’ll be discussing the steps that Jonathan Fields took to become a career renegade, as well as the steps he took to Plan, Write, Promote, and Profit from Career Renegade.

  1. Planning. Where did the idea for his book come from, and how did he come up with the book’s table of contents?
  2. Writing. What was writing the book like? How long did it take? How did he find the time? Does Jonathan Field have any writing shortcuts or tips to recommend?
  3. Promoting. When did Jonathan Field begin to promote his book? How did he get great cover quotes on an unpublished book? How is he promoting his book online and offline?
  4. Profiting. How does Jonathan Field intend to leverage the credibility and visibility of his book into profits beyond profits that come from the sales of his book?

This call offers a unique “case history” opportunity to hear a new author share his story and the lessons learned during his journey to a new career, a new definition of personal success, and a climb to the top of the best-seller lists.

Less than a week after it appeared, Career Renegade has climbed to the top 500 best-selling books on Amazon.com, and is the Number 1 Job Hunting book!
